DUNE: HOUSE ATREIDES COMIC BOOK SERIES LOGO & DESIGN

Dune: House Atreides is a twelve-issue comic book series published by BOOM! Studios. It is the official prequel to The New York Times Bestselling series from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson that were never previously adapted for comic books. I worked on creating the new Dune logo for this series, as well as design for both single and collected editions.

DIRECTION & EXPLORATIONS

Dune series logo and cover design have a lot of iterations through different mediums. While working on new series I tried to keep the familiar Dune bold look while finding a unique elements that will help it to stand out and be recognizable.

My initial designs range from very clean sci-fi to creating an eagle-shaped banner which is a symbol of House Atreides. Final logo showcased on the covers above is a that balance of a relatively simple font with additional silhouettes of Arrakis and its Moon cut out from it, the planet playing the huge role in all of the Dune stories. Another small element that I think pushes the idea of a desert planet is making all of the serifs going into one direction like blown by the sandy winds of Arrakis.

One of my favorite editions of Dune is Barnes & Noble Collectible edition with ornate foil framing of the cover and back cover. I combined my love for this cover with the more futuristic clean approach which worked perfectly for the credits page design. This arch design also resembles the entrances to the palaces from this series.

I created these postcard style covers featuring most prominent locations in the world of Dune as part of limited reprint editions. These covers were color treated and framed to remind of those postcards you send from your trips, but made to be a part of the magnificent world depicted in Dune series.
