STRANGE SKIES OVER EAST BERLIN SERIES DESIGN

Strange Skies over East Berlin is a Cold War era alien story that I created design pages for, both single issues and collection.

Created by Writer Jeff Loveness and Artist Lisandro Estherren, Colors by Patricio Delpeche, Letters by Steve Wands, Single Issue and Collection Design by Marie Krupina, Logo Design by Michelle Ankley, Collection Cover by Evan Cagle.

INSPIRATION & DESIGN DIRECTION

The majority of my design contributions to this series incorporate elements inspired by the Berlin Wall, featuring variations such as its silhouette, texture, or a combination of both. This iconic structure serves as the primary visual representation of the era in Berlin. The design spread below illustrates the Berlin cityscape, the enduring presence of the Berlin Wall, and the silhouette of the main character, whose world takes a dramatic turn when encountering the alien. Throughout these visuals, the wall stands as a symbol of constancy.

Design below draws inspiration from memories of wartime, serving as visual echoes of the characters' past lives and the haunting narrative that follows them, much like the lingering remnants of cities left in ruins.
